Lt. Col. Ray Walker Air Force Retirement - Nov 12, 2009

Lt. Col. Ray Walker
Air Force Retirement

November 12, 2009

Ray decided it was time to retire from the Air Force Reserves after 23 years of service. Ray sent out invitations to family, close friends and co-workers. We went up to Hill Air Force Base Museum before the retirement festivities began.

There was a formal retirement ceremony in the court room. (Dana even received a certificate of appreciation and red roses from Ray)

Time for cake after the ceremony to celebrate

It was a fun day. The kids were amazed at all the neat things that they heard about their dad. They didn't realize what an important part he played in Hill Air Force Base Legal Office.

On our way home we stopped in Alpine so Ray could tell his dad about the retirement. Dad Walker was so excited for the event and had really looked forward to attending it. Dad Walker was staying ag Weber and Ann's house in Alpine because he was declining in his health so much that he needed some one to take care of him. He had been put on hospice care, and the day of the retirement Weber and Ann were told that he probably wouldn't open his eyes again. Well, when we got there Ray had decided to talk to him as if he were aware and he told him all about the retirement ceremony. Dad Walker opened his eyes and said Hi to Ray and listened to him for about 10 minutes. Ray was very glad that he could have this last conversation with his dad, and he was glad that his dad was able to show his love and care for him. Dad Walker died 2 days later.
