Family Reunion
August 1, 2009
Saturday afternoon was the Walker Family reunion. Ray was in charge of the planning this year. Ray's brother's and sister's take turns every year going from the oldest sibling to the youngest sibling to plan the reunion. Ray is the baby of the family and so it will be Weber's turn next year.
Ray wasn't up to planning a real hard and complicated reunion this year, so we tried to keep it fun but simple. Ray scheduled a pavilion at Scera Park in Orem (which is only about 3 blocks from our house) to have the reunion at. It began at 4:00, and most of the family came on Walker time (late). We had games to play like croquet, washoes (a game that is kind of like horse shoes but you use giant washers), and volleyball. It took awhile for people to start playing games, but once they got started many joined in. At 6:00 we had a dinner, planned in the traditional Walker way - bring your own meat or main dish, and bring a salad and a dessert.
We took our grill to cook on, and had a delicious meal.
After dinner was the best part for the kids. Cousin Angelyn had made awesome treat bags and made a treasure hunt. Then Cousin Brook had made a cute pig pinata filled to the brim with candy. Brook's pinata's are always better than any you can ever find to buy. She has quite the talent for making them. The Walker kids always love to have a pinata. We always have them line up by age from youngest to oldest, so that hopefully everyone can have a turn at hitting it. Some of the little kids couldn't hardly hold the stick.
At 8:00 after dinner and games it was time to go into the Scera Shell (it is right by where we had our BBQ) to see the play "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". It was a fun play. Everyone didn't come to the play because of the cost (it was $8 a ticket), or because of their little kids. A lot of the adult cousins went to someone's house and played games. I am sure they had a great time too.
