Bands of America Competition
November 7, 2009
Shaun with the Orem High School Marching Band competed in St. George, Utah on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Red Rocks Marching Band Competition. They placed first in their division. Shaun had three parts that were a trumpet trio. They did a great job on Friday. Dana (mom), Ray (dad), Grandpa Harold & Sharon Little, Sister Heidi & Scott Christensen and Meghan & Claire came to watch the performance.
Saturday, November 7, was the Bands of America Marching Band Competition. Thirty-six bands came from many parts of the midwest-western United States to compete. The bands competed during the day in their divisions, and they had to be scored in the top 10 (of all divisions) to make it to the finals that were Saturday night. Shaun with Orem High Marching Band placed 1st in their division, and they also scored into the top 10 marching bands, which meant that they had the opportunity to compete in the BOA Finals on Saturday night. The finals don't divide the bands up into divisions, they are all competing against each other - whether they are large or small. Orem High School Marching Band ended up in 7th place out of all the bands at BOA. That was an excellent finish for them. They scored higher than a bunch of the larger bands.
The bands all came onto the field from the back. It looked awesome. Orem High Marching Band is on the 45 yard line to the left of the 50.
The bands lined up on the field. OHS is on the 45 yard line to the left of the 50 yard line. This is where they were awarded their first place medals for being 1st in their division.
The other side of the field.
Drum majors lined up for the presentations of the awards. OHS Drum majors in white/OHS Color Guard in black between the 45 and the 50 yard lines.
